A gc of 1.45 GB of loose objects on the hub ran for several minutes with no output at all (2026-10-03). gc should report its phases (finding what is reachable, pruning, training the dictionary, packing N of M objects, writing the index) on the spinner, and print each phase on stderr when there is no terminal, as other long commands do.
