Flow state stamps: a verifiable, state-addressed pipeline result for READMEs issue #1 closed: completed andymccall opened this · 0 comments

Show a pipeline's result in a README in a way that fits Oxygen, rather than a CI badge. A badge is a mutable image that claims a branch passed: it does not say which state, cannot be verified, and is wrong as soon as someone reads an old tag or a fork.

A state stamp belongs to a state:

  • ![flow](.flow/stamp) in a README's Markdown, resolved against the state being viewed. Browsing v0.1 shows how v0.1 did.
  • It shows the state hash, one glyph per job in dependency order, when it ran, a link to the run, and each job's receipt hash.
  • /{owner}/{name}/flow/stamp/{state}.svg is immutable and cacheable for any other site. /{owner}/{name}/flow/stamp/bookmark/{name}.svg redirects to the current state's stamp, so even the image names what was checked.
  • A state with no run says so ("no run for this state"); a live run says "running".
  • Later: "sealed by earth-1" once runner seals exist, and "reused from …" once receipts are reused.

Spec: hub spec §13.2.
