The hub holds 8.5 GB on Earth for 2.5 GB of repositories issue #246 closed: completed andymccall opened this · 1 comment

On 2026-10-16 the oxygenhub process on Earth had an RSS of 8.5 GB; its repositories take 2.5 GB on disk and /health reports a 3 GB state-cache budget (2.5 GB estimated). Find what holds the rest (allocator retention, per-repository caches, the state cache's estimate versus reality, Diffusion indexes) and bring it down, so the GCP VM can step down from 16 GB at the end-of-month review. Measure on Earth (heap profile or jemalloc stats), change, measure again.

Measured after the fix (state cache weight 5×text + 384×lines + 1 KiB×changes): 3.25 GB resident after 63 minutes with the cache estimating 3.07 GB (2026-10-17 06:55), against 8.0 GB at 53 minutes with an estimate of 2.5 GB before. The estimate now tracks what the hub holds.
