Drops: per-user gists, each a small hidden Oxygen repository issue #279 closed: completed andymccall opened this · 0 comments

Andy's idea and decisions (2026-10-20): the equivalent of gists, called Drops.

  • Each drop is its own small Oxygen repository (like a gist is a Git repo): one or more files, every edit a signed change with history and diffs, cloneable and pushable with oxy, its own URL.
  • Drops never appear in the user's normal repository list (nor explore, search results for repositories, or the profile's repository list). They have their own page: your Drops page lists and manages them (new, edit, delete, visibility); another user's Drops page shows their public drops.
  • Visibility per drop: public, or secret (unlisted: anyone with the link can read; the id is unguessable).
  • First version: create in the browser (title/description, one or more files with names and content), edit in the browser (signed as the user's hub delegate, like web edits), history and diffs, raw files, oxy clone/oxy push (a drop is a repository to the wire protocol), delete; JSON API; oh drop create FILE... [--secret] [-d TEXT], oh drop list, oh drop view ID. Push protection applies to drops like any repository. Later: fork, star, comments, embed.
